Every April 13–15, Thailand celebrates its traditional New Year, Songkran, with the biggest water fight on earth. What began as a gentle ritual of pouring water over Buddha images and elders has become days of joyful, city-wide splashing.

Chiang Mai, around its old-city moat, throws the most legendary party — though Bangkok's Khao San Road is a close second.
